Impulse
a sudden strong unreflective urge or desire to act. - Oxford Dictionary
In exploration of my own feelings this morning, I've finally fully understood the difference between a want and an impulse and their implications in my interactions with the world.
When it matters, impulses ruin good things. When it doesn't matter, impulses are merely ineffectual.
For when it does matter
When feelings surge, an impulse is home with a tempest in a teapot.
The only thing that evicts the impulse and accompanied chaos is time and reflection. We are lucky to get both.
Eventually the heat dies down.
And things are okay again.
With love,
